ANTRIM, NH--Holiday travel usually means family trips to see grandparents, Santa Claus, and sometimes Mickey Mouse. But, as any parent will tell you, a family trip during the holidays also means a chorus of, "Are we there YET?" from the back seat.

On behalf of bored children everywhere--and their stressed-out parents--a New Hampshire father of three earlier this year launched Family on Board - Gear for Safe, Happy Travel, a catalog of safety, comfort and entertainment products for families who travel the world by car, ship, plane or train.

Brian Beihl, president of Family on Board, said that he spent a lot of time listening to his wife, his potential customers and mostly his kids, ages four to eight, before conceiving his catalog. "Most families love to vacation, but hate getting there. We've looked all over to find products that make getting there almost as much fun as the destination--for both the kids and for Mom and Dad."

Beihl cites his entertainment products as an example. "We've chosen games that don't make noise, something that makes parents particularly happy. Our puzzles and activities are self-contained, magnetic, or cling to a board so the game doesn't stop if a piece falls on the floor. And, we try to find activities which last for a longer trip, not just a few minutes," Beihl said.

In addition to toys and games, Family on Board provides an array of products geared to make travel with kids easier: books discussing how to travel with kids, as well as guides to the best family destinations; durable rolling luggage for kids and adults; car-top and in-car storage; maps and map software; no-spill coffee mugs and drink bottles; travel kits for diaper changing and emergency potty stops; convenient travel feeding products for infants; a child safety seat designed for use on planes; and even a television and video cassette recorder designed for installation in minivans.

According to Better Homes and Gardens magazine, families with children took 46.8 million vacations in 1995, with 86% of those trips by car. Beihl expects that with continued strong domestic travel, with a strong economy and low fuel prices, American families will travel in record numbers both by car and air. "That means 100 million very unhappy children in the back seat, unless their parents come to us first," he said with a smile. Family on Board can be reached at 800/357-0212, or at its online catalog web site, www.familyonboard.com.
