ANTRIM, NH -- Internet travel catalog Family on Board -- Gear for Safe, Happy Travel has unveiled an "affiliate store" program on the World-Wide Web which allows travel agents and other travel businesses with web sites to earn a commission on sales of Family on Board merchandise to their customers.
Recently mentioned in TIME, Good Housekeeping, and USA Today, Family on Board specializes in products to make family travel by car or plane less stressful and more fun, including travel games, puzzles and activities, motion sickness and ear pressure relievers, quality luggage for kids and adults, family travel guides, audiobooks and family music.
"Hearing 'Are we there yet?' for 3,000 miles is one of those things parents dread most about traveling with kids," said Brian Beihl, founder and president of Family on Board. "Family on Board is all about trying to make that trip easier. If the customer has a better trip, we all win. As we see it, this is a great opportunity for travel companies to add a welcome service for their customers who travel with kids, plus make a little no-risk money in the process. And, it allows Family on Board to reach customers it might not otherwise reach, and at the critical time when they're formulating travel plans," he said.
To become affiliates, travel agents, tour operators, hotels and resorts, airlines and others travel businesses add a Family on Board "affiliate store" page in their web site. If a customer follows the link to the Family on Board site and makes a purchase, the affiliate receives 10 percent of the
(more)
merchandise total as a commission. In addition, as a value-added service for the affiliate and as an incentive for repeat business, customers using an affiliate's site are given a 5 percent discount off their purchase.
Beihl said there is no cost to participate in the program, nor is there any investment, except for the affiliate's time in placing the links on its web page. After reviewing the terms of the affiliate agreement online (www.familyonboard.com/affiliates), interested businesses submit an electronic application. When the application is approved, the web master receives a customizable HTML page on the travel site's server which provides a trackable link to the Family on Board online catalog. When an order is placed, Family on Board handles all the customer service, shipping and returns, then a commission check is cut for the affiliate on a quarterly basis.
Family on Board added its charter affiliates in September, including a cruise information web site, two family travel information web sites, and several travel agencies, Beihl said. The catalog's goal is to add 500 affiliates by June 1, 2000, in preparation for the peak of family travel for the summer.
Information about the Family on Board affiliate program is available online only at www.familyonboard.com/affiliates and the online catalog can be viewed at www.familyonboard.com.
The catalog's business offices and warehouse are located in Antrim, New Hampshire, and catalogs can be requested at 800-357-0212.
